4-Hers begin the process of raising sheep for the Cache County Fair.

There are a few things to consider when picking out a lamb; tail length, loin size and of course cuteness.

“Well I looked for a cute one, “ said Jaymie Durrant, 13, “and I kind of wanted a big loin because that’s the most expensive cut.”

Durrant and her friend Sage Mascaro, 13, made the trip from Paradise to Mike Summers’ sheep ranch in Thatcher. With fellow 4-Hers, they crowded into a small pen of baaing sheep. It was there that the two made that difficult decision of which lamb they were going to take home and raise for the Cache County Fair.

“They have to be cute… I like the little tuft on her head, “said Sage Mascaro, 13, as she ruffled the fur on her lamb’s head.
