Eating Their Wheaties

Whether you call them “sun birds” or “summer citizens,” one thing is for sure, they know how to have a good time while in Logan.

Last week the senior tenants of Old Farm student housing at Utah State University staged their annual Senior Olympics. They kicked off the week with a torch ceremony (the torch bearer wore a hat adorned with their olympic symbol — beer can rings representing the five different states the residents hail from).
‘We’ve got bocci, we have bean bag (toss) and we’ve got a golf driving range … and in our senior years we’re having a ball!” said Tony Merlino, of Sun City Grand Arizona.
The close-knit community brought out their lawn chairs every morning to be a part of the action. They cheered on their neighbors, they scrutinized every bocci toss and, of course, there was a little good natured trash talking going on.
“You need to go eat your Cheerios!” yelled one woman to her husband after he missed a shot while competing in the Ladder Golf event.
