I live on Canyon Road in Logan. This morning, Saturday, July 25th, I wake up to a strangely quiet neighborhood. There is no roar of heavy machinery. There is no sound of the scrape and thump of the shovels held by dozens of volunteers. There is no sound of voices talking about the mudslide and tragic deaths of three weeks ago. There is only the sound of an occasional car driving through the stream of water that still flows down Canyon Road. This is the same sound I woke to three weeks ago.

We have made our phone calls explaining our concern and have waited for someone to do something. The conclusion seems to be that no one wants to do anything because doing something would be like admitting fault. And no one wants to be at fault for three deaths, especially with the many pending law suits. There were so many contributing factors that led to tragedy; one single entity cannot possibly be blamed. My hope has been that all these entities would work together to prevent a future tragedy. Yet, I too, have thought why should I do something? I am a quiet person who does not like the attention that comes from the loudness required to have your voice heard. So I have told myself that this is not affecting my house; this is not affecting my yard. But it is affecting my neighborhood and affecting my town. Maybe, just maybe if enough voices had spoken out there would be three individuals alive today.

Gerald,might I suggest that you take the CERT Training Program.
This was and still is an unsafe area
we do not want more lives lost. It is sad and unfortunate that this disaster had to happen. My prayers go out to those who have lost there loved ones, and a big thank you to those who have taken the time to recover the victims. May the Lord bless them in their efforts to find them and that no other lives will be lost.
We should all prepare ourselves and communites for disaster that may occur here in Cache Valley.

How can these bodies have not been excavated in the last 3 days? Instead of the 500plus mormons cleaning up the neighborhood, they should have used their shovels to dig out these victoms as fast as was possible!!!!!What’s going on????
