Pioneers built the canal systems in Cache Valley throughout the 1860s and beyond, laying the foundation for an agrarian county. A century and a half later, the newly formed Cache Water District is contemplating how water will be distributed and preserved for future generations.

As the population grows, Cache County Executive Craig Buttars said the water management systems put in place today will be just as valuable as those pioneer canals.
