George and Carmelita (Red Elk) Thomas are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. They were married on June 21, 1962, at Fort Sill Army Base in Lawton, Oklahoma. Their marriage was later solemnized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint Temple located in Logan, Utah.
George and Carmelita considered Cache County a fine place to raise a family and set down roots. Set down roots they did. They have resided in North Logan for over 55 years. They raised 4 semi-responsible daughters. Maudrena (Roger) Crummitt; Preston, ID, Sharla (Jeremiah) Means; Boise, ID, Karen (Ron) Smith; North Ogden, UT, and the baby and favorite Carrie (Mark) Jeppesen; Syracuse, UT.
The advice they have always given their family is to not take any wooden nickels and if you play you must pay. The advice worked out well, because it got them through 60 years of comfortable bliss and none of their daughters have ended up in trouble with the law (yet).
Their 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren have enjoyed the life lessons shared by their grandparents. If you ask Grandma, she will give you whatever you want and if you ask Grandpa how to do something he will do it for you. Many of the grandchildren had the opportunity to live with their Grandparents while attending USU or working in Logan.
The family celebrated the momentous occasion doing what they enjoy most, eating and laughing.
