Balls' 80th

Happy 80th birthday to Denae Balls. Denae was born on June 10, 1939, to Zina G. Leavitt and William S. Archibald in Wellsville. She is the youngest in her family. She has one older sister and three older brothers. She is no stranger to hardships, as her mother, Zina, passed away unexpectedly when Denae was only three years old. Denae attended Floradel Elementary School in Wellsville; Wellsville Junior High School, and graduated from South Cache High School.

During her Junior year of high school, she went to the Elite Hall in Hyrum, where she met a handsome young paratrooper named Lew Dell Balls, who had just returned home from the service. Two years later, on Christmas Eve, they got engaged and were married in the Logan LDS Temple on July 18, 1958. They lived in Logan prior to setting their roots down in Hyde Park.

As Denae raised their family, she played softball for the town of Hyde Park. She played third base and found that she had an excellent arm for throwing the ball. She adores her family and has spent countless hours together with them camping and packing their horses into the Wind River and Uinta mountains. They love to go to Jackson Hole, Wyoming and they can often be found in the front row at the Bar-J Chuckwagon. S

he has served in many callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has served in the Primary and Sunday School. She has been the young woman president and has also served as a counselor in the Relief Society. Besides being a full-time wife and mother, Denae worked at USU and then later was employed by the Cache County School District, working at North Park Elementary in the library. She then worked at Summit Elementary and Sky View High School in food services. She retired in 1991 after working for 18 years. Denae was called to serve alongside Dell on a mission for the LDS church at the Bishops Storehouse in Logan. They also delivered Meals on Wheels for six years.

Denae is always found serving others. It is a pure delight to be the recipient of one of her home cooked meals. She takes great pride in their yard and works tirelessly at keeping it beautifully groomed. She is always volunteering to help in any way possible. She would literally do anything for her family. Her children and their spouses are: Jan Balls, Courtney and Shelley Balls and Bryce and Melia Balls. She has seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, who adore their Grandma Nae. Happy Birthday! Love, your family!
