ith the arrival of December at the end of the week, local churches are set to begin Advent with a variety of services spanning until Christmas.

In the liturgical calendar, Advent is celebrated the four weeks leading up to December 25. Christians celebrate Advent to prepare and remember the birth of Jesus Christ.

Cache Valley Bible Fellowship

Cache Valley Bible Fellowship, 1488 N. 200 West, Logan, meets for Sunday worship at 11 a.m. with Sunday school offered at 9:30 a.m. For more information, visit www.cachevalleybible.org.

Cache Valley Bible Fellowship invites the community to their annual Candle Light Christmas Eve Service on December 24 at 7 p.m. We will sing traditional Christmas carols, consider what Christ’s birth means for us today and close with lighting candles.

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church

Advent Services with Holy Communion will be held Sunday, Dec. 2, Sunday, Dec. 9 Sunday, Dec. 16 and Sunday, Dec. 23, at 6:30 p.m. Morning services will not be held the month of December.

An Intergenerational Activity with fellowship will be held on Dec. 2 and Dec. 9 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. On Sunday, Dec. 16, the church will be making wreaths from 3:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Prior to the Sunday, Dec. 23 service, parishioners will be caroling from 4 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. A Christmas Eve Candlelight Service will take place Monday, Dec. 24, at 6:30 p.m. The church will return to its normal schedule on Sunday, Dec. 30, starting at 9:30 a.m. with “Lessons and Carols.”

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 581 N. 700 East, Logan, holds regular worship services every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. with Sunday School prior to the service at 9:30 a.m.

Holy Trinity will host its Children’s Christmas Program at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, during the worship service. The church will also hold midweek worship services each Wednesday during Advent starting Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m., preceded by soup suppers at 6 p.m. A Christmas Eve Candlelight Service will be held on Dec. 24 at 7 p.m. The church will conduct a Christmas Day Service on Dec. 25 at 9:30 a.m.

First Presbyterian Church

First Presbyterian will host its customary services at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on the four Sundays of Advent starting Sunday, Dec. 2 and running through Sunday, Dec. 23. The church will hold Christmas Eve Worship on Monday, Dec. 24, with services at 5 p.m., 7 p.m. and 11 p.m.

This year, First Presbyterian is co-organizing with St. John’s Episcopal and Prince of Peace for a gathering called “Light in the Darkness: A Service of Prayer and Healing.” It will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5. The service is open for the community as a way to recognize that holidays can be a difficult time for many who grieve different types of losses. All are welcome.

The church will also hold other special events that are not worship-related with a Family Advent Workshop at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2 in Bruner Hall. Christmas Caroling will take place at 6 p.m Monday, Dec. 10 at area supported living centers.

St. John’s Episcopal

St. John’s Episcopal Church will host its annual Festival of Lessons and Carols for Advent on Monday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m., featuring the vocal accompaniment of the Utah State University Choral Scholars. This service, originating in England in the nineteenth century and is intended to help prepare ourselves for the gift of Christ’s coming into the world at Christmas. The church will also hold Christmas Eve Services on Monday, Dec. 24 at 5:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Christmas Day services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 25 at 10 a.m. Lessons and Carols for the Christmas Season will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 30. The Feast of Epiphany will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 6.

Emmanuel Baptist Church

Emmanuel would like to invite families and children to come and be a part of our Children’s Christmas Pageant at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 16. Christmas Eve services will be held on Monday, Dec. 24 at 3 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. In the week following Christmas, the Logan campus of Alpine will host its Missions Week activities starting on Friday, Dec. 28, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. sorting and packing goods for the Alpine Mobile Pantry. The event will be held at the church. On Saturday, Dec. 29 teams will be participate in the Feed My Starving Children Mobile Packing Event throughout the day. Multiple shifts are available. St. Thomas will host a Communal Advent Penance Service at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4. The service will feature seven priests from our Diocese. Mass for the Immaculate Conception Holy Day of Obligation at Saint Thomas Aquinas will be held Friday, Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. There will be no noon mass. An Immaculate Conception Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Newman Center.

A Communal Penance Service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4 at St. Thomas. This service aids people to prepare their hearts anew to celebrate the Nativity of Our Lord.
