Investigators with the Cache County Sheriff's Office say they do not know the identity of a badly burned person whose body was discovered inside of a vehicle destroyed by fire.

"There are no further details at this time and many questions are yet to be answered," Lt. Mike Peterson said. "Detectives will be working throughout the night in efforts to identify the person inside the vehicle and determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding this case."

In a press release issued Sunday evening, Peterson said the vehicle was discovered on private property near Petersboro. The fire was not actively burning at the time of their arrival and appeared to have been burned within the last day or so.

Detectives from the Cache County Sheriff's Office, the State Medical Examiner's Office, and resources from the State Fire Marshall's Office have been dispatched to the scene.
