Effective September 20, 2021, all fire restrictions for Bear Lake County will be cancelled. Open burning will be allowed with a permit. Permits may be obtained from the sheriff’s office by calling (208) 945-2121 ext. 1. The only fire not requiring a permit will be a small recreation fire. (IFC code 307.4 exception 2)

The requirements for all fires are

· Someone to always monitor the fire

· Only natural material may be burned, plastics, tires, garbage etc... cannot be burned

· Proper tools to extinguish the fire

· The fire must be cold out if you leave it.

Failure to comply may result in a citation and costs of fire suppression from the fire department. The person starting the fire is responsible for all damages the fire may cause.

Please check the DEQ web site for daily air quality restrictions before starting your fire. In some cases, you will need to obtain a permit from DEQ along with your Bear Lake County permit.
