In an effort to improve lighting for Montpelier City’s western entrance on the overpass, the City of Montpelier announces the installation of 17 upgraded light fixtures. Gone is the old yellow lighting seen for years coming into town and installed are new bright LED fixtures that improves visibility, enhances security and matches the downtown LED lighting color on Washington Street.
Total cost of the upgrades exceeded $8,000 with almost a $1,500 cash share paid by Rocky Mountain Power through its WattSmart Business program. The incentive is designated to improve energy efficiency with newer electrical technology. The upgrade is estimated to save almost 15,000 kilowatts per year with the city’s expenditure breaking even in 4.4 years with the electricity cost savings. In addition, the investment is considered part of the city’s match for the $500,000 block grant awarded earlier this year for the downtown renovation project that will start in the spring of 2022.
