Children gathered eggs, looking for a golden egg

Last Saturday, April 2, the Montpelier Chamber of Commerce hosted an Easter Egg Hunt at the Wells C. Stock Park. It was a sunny, clear, 60-degree day, and hundreds of children and adults alike swarmed the park with enthusiasm and delight with the expectation of searching for the perfect egg.

The Easter Bunny was there to greet everyone with its usual happy face, hopping around the park and saying “hi” to all the kids. The Easter Bunny also passed out coupons from Maverik, Arctic Circle, and Subway.

There were over 6,000 eggs hidden around the park waiting for little hands to find them and claim the goodies inside. The eggs were filled with candy, small toys, and some of the eggs also had notices of larger prizes inside them. Whatever was inside, the kids grabbed them and opened them up with glee.

There were over 400 prizes available at the hunt. Some of those prizes included books for the younger children, jump ropes, foam swords and shields, Splat hands, fidgets, and ninja daggers, to name a few.

The grand prizes were won by Whinnie Jacobs, age 3; Hunter Christopherson, age 8; Payton Hayes, age 8; Aden Carroll, age 12; Tyson Wright, age 3; Remington Wright, age 6; Beau Gutierrez, age 6; Payton Bush, age 4; Jaxton Peterson, age 12; and Sirenity Barrett, age 8.

The $25 cash prize was won by Brynlie Parslow.

Nineteen businesses around Montpelier donated eggs to the hunt. Those businesses were Sharp Insurance, JJ’s Deli, The Wave Radio Station, Fizeez, McPherson’s Point S, Rainy Day Foods, The News-Examiner, Broulim’s, High Country Motorsports, Rest Assured Inns and Suites, Zions Bank, Bear Lake School District #33, Elk Country Sports, Clover Creek Inn, Advantage Plus Credit Union, Northern Title Co., Bear Lake Dental, U-Save, and, of course, the Montpelier Chamber of Commerce.

Leonhardt Distributing, The Ranch Hand, and Bear Necessities donated cash.

The Chamber of Commerce wants to thank all of the businesses that contributed to the Easter Egg Hunt.

We would also like to thank all the Chamber members and volunteers who helped make this event possible.

The Montpelier Chamber of Commerce also sponsored a Virtual Easter Scavenger Hunt for ages 13 and older on Wednesday, Mar. 31 through Friday, Apr. 2.

This scavenger hunt entailed you having to drive by the Chamber businesses who sponsored the event and scanning a QR code in their window with your phone. This code would take you to the business’s website or Facebook page where you would take a screenshot of an “Egg” on their site and text it to 208-220-2458 by 4 p.m. Friday.

Then on Friday evening at 7 p.m., there was a live prize drawing on Facebook.com/Bearlakechamber.

There are nine businesses who contributed prizes to the scavenger hunt winners. Each winner will go to the corresponding business to receive his or her prize. Those businesses are Bear Lake Memorial Hospital Gift Shop, Bear Lake Memorial Hospital Thrift Store, Zions Bank, First American Title, The News-Examiner, JJ’s Deli, Cody’s Gastro Garage, Bear Lake Montpelier, and Mystical Moose Creations.

There will also be an additional Chamber certificate given to eight of the winners (as one of the businesses is not a Chamber of Commerce member).
