The women of the Montpelier Golf Association hosted an Invitational Fun Day on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, with 32 women coming to participate. Enjoying the day together were six women from Star Valley, eight women from the Bear Lake West, and eighteen women from our Montpelier association. The women were flighted by handicaps into eight teams and played a nine-hole scramble.
The women were allowed to purchase two mulligan shots and could also enter an optional Chip-In Pot. There were also contests for longest drive on hole three and closest to the pin on hole 9.
The team scores for the day ranged from 33 to 41. The score of 33 took first place for the team of Jana Hansen, Marsha Sortor, Leslie Talbot, and Nancy Berry. The second place team of Jayne Filibi, Judi Naylor, Lori Haddock, and Linda Vandaburgs wasn’t far behind with their score of 34; while the team of Louise Bellina, Bonnie Allen, Jody Wood, and Tami Woolstenhulme brought in a score of 35 to claim third place.
Two Montpelier women, Marsha Sortor and Jill Kunz had chip-in shots on hole 2 and hole 9 respectively to win and share the $23.00 Chip-In Pot. Jayne Filibi from Star Valley hit the longest drive, and Connie Hymas from Montpelier landed her tee off shot closest to the pin. Both Jayne and Connie received really cute baskets filled with golfing supplies for winning those contests.
It was really fun to meet and mingle with women from the other areas, and everyone had a wonderful time. This invitational event began last year at Bear Lake West and is something we hope will continue. The Star Valley women have agreed to host the event next year, and we look forward to gathering there next summer.
A lovely luncheon of sandwiches, salads and desserts was served after the golfing ended, and a drawing for prizes was done during the luncheon with every woman winning a prize. It was a beautiful day for golfing and making some new friends! We send a BIG thank you to Jill Kunz, Jana Hansen and Cindy Raymond for chairing and organizing this event for us. Great job ladies, it was AWESOME!
