Rest Assured Inns & Suites at 745 Washington Street in Montpelier is now offering U-Haul products and services.

On November 14, the U-Haul communications Department issued a release that they are pleased to announce that Rest Assured Inns in Montpelier has signed on as a U-Haul neighborhood dealer to serve the Montpelier community. The Inn will offer U-Haul trucks, trailers, towing equipment, moving supplies, boxes, and in-store pick-up for boxes.

Since 1945, U-Haul has been the No. 1 choice of do-it-yourself movers, with a network of 22,000 locations across all 50 states and 10 Canadian provinces. U-Haul’s customers’ patronage has enabled their fleet to grow to approximately 167,000 trucks, 120,000 trailers and 43,000 towing devices. They offer nearly 697,000 rooms and 60.7 million square feet of self-storage space at owned and managed facilities throughout North America. U-Haul is the largest installer of permanent trailer hitches in the automotive aftermarket industry, and is the largest retailer of propane in the U.S.

Rest Assured Inns owner, Derek Rider, is proud to team with the industry leader in do-it-yourself moving and self-storage to better meet the demands of Bear Lake County.

Rest Assured Inns & Suites was once the Park Motel, owned and operated by Deanna Bruinn. Deanna had some continuing health problems and cancer for a third time making it difficult for her to keep running the motel, so Derek purchased the motel from her Halloween of 2013.

Derek actually added U-Haul to the business in June of 2019 and purchased the shop next door from Jim Griglock and Bob Biggs to aid in storage and parking. Rider said that one of the first things he thought of was to bring in U-Haul when he bought the motel. According to him, U-Haul initially liked what he had to offer and the fact that there would be two dealerships in the area, each on opposite sides of town.

One of the perks that U-Haul has now is the “U-Haul Truck Share 24/7” program, available at 21,000-plus locations across the U.S. and Canada, including the Rest Assured Inn in Montpelier. It is revolutionizing the industry through its more convenient, more secure way to pick up and return a truck. Customers can conduct transactions entirely on their smart phones at any hour — day or night. There are no membership fees. You just create an online account at and start setting up whatever vehicle and/or supplies you need. If it is after hours, there is a lock box outside the Rest Assured Inn where you pick up or return your keys with your vehicle. You document everything by taking pictures with your phone of the equipment, even the dashboard/odometer, and you’re on your way, either coming or going.

Rest Assured Inn is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. when the office is closed for the night. Normal business hours for U-Haul at the Rest Assured Inn are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week. Derek wants to emphasize that this location doesn’t just rent trucks and trailers. He also stocks boxes, tape, trailer lights, etc. And, if there is any additional equipment that might be needed, he will be more than happy to order it in.

Derek’s entire family is out of Star Valley where he lived until Deanna passed away, after which he moved to Montpelier. He is divorced but has a girlfriend, Esther Calixtro. He also has three children, Darian (26), Kory (23), and Tyler (21).

Derek’s philosophy is to help Montpelier grow and bring in commercial businesses. He says, “It takes baby steps to get to the big picture.”
