First place – Jana Hansen, Connie Hymas & Marsha Sortor

Between storm systems that drenched the valley on Tuesday and are forecast to return on Thursday, the women were thrilled to have Wednesday arrive with blue skies and sunshine and be able to hold their first Ladies Day of the season. Nine women attended the short meeting about this year’s activities and then formed three teams and participated in a scramble called Bunker Down.

Play ended in this scramble once a ball was on the green or a sand trap around the green. So it would be a day when you would – Don’t Worry, Be Happy – when your golf ball landed in the sand trap. Many times during the day’s play, the women found themselves in course locations where it should have been an easy shot to the green — or better still — to the sand trap, and everyone on the team would miss that easy shot. Many times hopes were high as a ball rolled into the trap and then those hopes plummeted as the ball kept right on rolling – right out of the trap, but didn’t make the green. Then there were the easy shots to the green, and all shots would stop inches short of the green or roll onto the green and right off the other side. The women decided there is no such thing as an easy shot, but amongst the groans and cries of “You’re kidding me” and “I can’t believe it” was also much laughter.

When play ended the teams, all declared they had golfed terrible; however, they had great fun comparing stories and laughing about how they failed to make those supposedly easy shots. So I thought I’d let you all know, we did golf terrible – last year’s scores for this same scramble were in the mid-twenties and this year’s scores were 33, 32, and 30. Jill Kunz, Joyce Price, and Linda Arnell brought in the score of 32 to place second for the day. The hard-earned score of 30 made first place winners of Marsha Sortor, Connie Hymas, and Jana Hansen. We may not have golfed as well as we wanted, but we sure had a lot of fun missing those Easy Shots.

The women also decided to change our tee off time for Ladies Day to 9:30 a.m. each Wednesday morning. So make a note of the change and come join the fun!
