The St. Charles home of Rusty and Sonja Bassett was lost to fire early Sunday morning. According to Bear Lake County fire chief Mark Parker, the couple awoke to what sounded like an explosion around 6 a.m.

Whatever the cause, it pushed out the south wall of the house and dropped a structural beam, said Parker. The occupants reportedly made their way “through a wall of fire” to a safe exit.
