“Your future holds endless possibilities.” This was the theme for the Bear Lake School District Class of 2019. Graduation commencement took place on May 30, 2019, at the Paris Tabernacle.
Prior to commencement graduates dressed in blue and white cap and gowns scattered the lawn of the Tabernacle. Excitement and anticipation of diplomas filled the air. Parents adjusted caps and stoles of their graduating seniors. Brothers and sisters darted across the grass, burning off energy.
The ceremony proceeded at 7:00 pm. Shelly Wallentine offered the prelude. The graduate processional began, and photos were snapped as the proud graduates proceeded to their seats in the risers.
Luke Kelsey, the Principal, welcomed the proud graduates and attendees. Jaren Stevens gave the opening remarks. A Trumpet Trio (Hayden Hunt, James Farmer, Rachel Heeder) played the National Anthem beautifully as the crowd stood in respect.
There were five honor speakers throughout the evening that gave amazing speeches, each filled with insight, humor, and advice for the graduating class. A fellow classmate personally introduced each speaker. The introductions were personal and heartfelt. The honor speakers and introduction speakers were:
Honor Speaker Olivia Crane — Senior class president — Introduced by Eliza Biesinger
Honor Speaker Rebecca Park — Student Body President- Introduced by Jessica Jensen
Honor Speaker Callie Crane — Valedictorian — Introduced by Maya Higley
Honor Speaker Jodi Transtrum — Valedictorian — Introduced by Cheyenne Mast
Honor Speaker James Farmer — Valedictorian — Introduced by Bryson Grose
A breathtaking Harp solo, “River Flows In You” was performed by Adrianna Johnson. The heavenly notes filled the room and added a special feeling to the ceremony.
Several of the graduates stood in recognition of Citizenship awards that they had achieved. Michael Wilding, Athletic Director, read the names of the student achievers.
Cameron Crane, the school Counselor, presented the Presidential and Honor Awards recipients.
The speeches and award presentations came to a close.
The time had finally arrived that each graduate had waited patiently for, the presentation of diplomas. Mr. Kelsey presented the graduates, and Paul Alleman accepted the graduates. The presentation of the diplomas was performed by Loralyn Biensinger, Leah Loertscher, Von Saxton, and Denice Gillies. Each graduates name was read as they stepped forward and received their hard-earned diploma. It was a proud moment for everyone as cheering and clapping rang out for each student.
Lily Taylor announced the presentation of Stoles. Each graduate chose one person in their life who was a guiding force and inspiration through the graduate’s academic career, to present their stole to. There were smiles, tears, and hugs all around. It was a very touching moment for both the graduate and the recipient of the stole.
After the closing prayer by Brielle Ruud, the graduating class was acknowledged as tassels were moved to the other side of their caps. Graduates stood and cheered! Blue and white caps soared into the air; clapping erupted through the audience. The time had come; freedom felt euphoric.
Back on the grounds of The Tabernacle photo shoots took place. Families, friends, and faculty posed for photos that would soon become cherished memories. Hugs and kisses were shared, and yes, even tears were shed. Laughter could be heard from every direction. It was a wonderfully emotional evening for all who attended.
The community of Bear Lake would like to express its most sincere congratulations to the Bear Lake High Graduating Class of 2019. As the graduation theme suggests “Your future holds endless possibilities” but remember, “ There is only one success: to be able to spend your life your own way.” Christopher Morley.
