If celebratory fireworks in July are a Utah tradition, so are hot, dry summers that feel more like a blazing furnace stuck in the on position. As a result, fire officials are saying it is time to put some safety restrictions in place.
Effective Friday, July 19, the following activities will be prohibited on all unincorporated land in Cache Valley, whether it is private or state-owned:
• Discharging or using any kind of fireworks, tracer ammunition, or other pyrotechnical devices, including exploding targets.
• The setting building, maintaining, attending or using open fires of any kind, except within the facilities designated for them in improved campgrounds, picnic areas or home sites where running water is present.
• Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle, trailer or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area that is paved or free of dry vegetation.
• Cutting, welding or grinding metal in areas of dry vegetation.
• Operating a motorcycle, chainsaw, ATV or other small internal combustion engine without an approved and working spark arrestor.
There are no fireworks restrictions in Amalga, Clarkston, Hyrum, Mendon, Newton, Paradise, River Heights or Trenton. Other restrictions vary by city, as noted below.
All areas within Cornish city limits.
All areas east of 400 East.
All areas East of 800 East and all areas West of 2400 West.
All areas east of 550 East.
All areas east of Highway 165.
All areas east of 1600 East.
All areas east of 300 East and north of 500 North.
All areas north of Center Street and East of 200 East. All areas south of Center Street and East of 800 East.
All areas West of 200 West and South of 900 South.
Logan, East bench, north of Logan Canyon:
All areas above 1600 East.
Logan, East bench, south of Logan Canyon:
East of Gibbons Parkway.
Logan, on the Island:
Areas near north and south slopes.
Logan, west side, north of 200 South:
West of 600 West.
Logan, west side, south of 200 South:
West of 1000 West.
Logan, Gravel Pit Closure:
Between 1200 East and 1400 East, from about 1500 North to 1100 North.
East side of 200 West from 1400 North to 1800 North.
North side of 1800 North from 200 West to 600 West.
Fireworks are only allowed within the following boundaries: Beginning at approximately 450 North 300 East, all properties located within Providence city boundaries north of 450 North and east of 300 East continuing south to 100 South, all properties located within Providence city boundaries south of 100 South and east of Main Street continuing south to 500 South, all properties located within Providence city boundaries south of 500 South, continuing west to Meadow Lane, all properties located within Providence city boundaries west of Meadow Lane, continuing north to 300 South, then all properties located within Providence city boundaries west of Garden Drive continuing north to Golf Course Rd, all properties located within Providence city boundaries north of Golf Course Road, continuing east to 100 West, all properties located within Providence city boundaries west of 100 West continuing north to Spring Creek Parkway, all properties located within Providence city boundaries north of Spring Creek Parkway continuing east to approximately 450 North 300 East. Fireworks are also restricted in any mountainous, brush-covered, or forested areas not defined above, any undeveloped wildland, or land being used for agricultural purposes.
