A Logan man appeared in 1st District Court this week where he pleaded guilty to removing a baby girl's diaper and touching her while watching child pornography.

Andrew Oakeson, 27, entered a plea to aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony that generally carries a penalty of 15 years to life in the Utah State Prison. Utah state code does allow a judge to consider a lesser penalty of either 6 or 10 years to life if it is in the interest of justice to do so.

Oakeson was arrested on June 29 after disclosing his actions to a therapist, who then contacted police. According to a probable cause statement filed at the time of arrest, Oakeson told police that he viewed child pornography on his cell phone on four particular dates, and on two of those dates, he touched the 18-month-old child inappropriately.

Additional charges of sodomy on a child, aggravated sexual abuse of a child and lewdness involving a child were dismissed as part of a negotiated plea settlement with the Cache County Attorney's Office. Sentencing has been set for Aug. 17.
