The Idaho State Police say the man suspected in a Box Elder County shooting was apprehended in Idaho at about 3:15 p.m. Friday.

Jonathan Llana, 45, is suspected in a driveby shooting on Interstate 84 near Snowville at about 8 p.m. Wednesday that claimed the life of a Salt Lake City man and injured another. The incident is under investigation by the Utah State Bureau of Investigations.

While few details are being released at this time, the Utah Highway Patrol said Llana apparently broke into a home overnight, and stole a side-by-side ATV. He was taken into custody near Burley, approximately 10 miles from where he crashed the car while fleeing from police.

Dennis Gwyther, 50, of Salt Lake City, was killed in the shooting, and injured his passenger.

Matt Gwyther said in a Facebook post that he and Dennis Gwyther married on Dec. 10, 2013, the day gay marriage was legalized in Utah. He said Dennis Gwyther was the “love of his life” who enjoyed being the “bonus dad” to his two teenage children.

He said Dennis Gwyther loved kidding around and playing jokes and was like a “kid inside an adult body.” He said he loved gadgets and was a genius with technology, loved writing and did sound and lighting for clubs in Salt Lake City.

Dennis Gwyther was also a strong advocate for LGBTQ rights, his husband said.

He said the family is still in shock at his death and wants the suspect caught and for “swift justice.”
