Two students from Utah State University have been recognized with a national honor in science and math.

Ecology double major Ethan Hammer and math major Bryce Frederickson were named 2019 Goldwater Scholars.

“This well-deserved recognition is a testament to the exceptional achievements of our students in academics, research and service, as well as the outstanding mentorship by our faculty,” USU President Noelle Cockett stated in prepared remarks.

Goldwater Scholars are awarded one- or two-year scholarships of up to $7,500. Universities are allowed to submit up to four nominations each year. Since 1998, USU has had 31 Goldwater Scholars.

Nearly 500 students were selected for the award from 1,200 nominees this year.
