Connecting Utah — a branch of Utah Broadband Center — is requesting state residents participate in an online Internet Speed Test as part of an effort to determine the quality of internet accessibility in different areas of the state.
Cache County Executive David Zook further explained the project Tuesday evening at a county council meeting.
“Connecting Utah is working on ensuring that as many Utahns as possible have broadband internet access,” he said. “They’re encouraging everyone to do it and to encourage others to do it.”
He said the information will be used to help determine which areas of the state are most in need of broadband access. The state can then “move forward with working to get that broadband access installed.”
The test can be found at speedtest.utah.gov, as can further information about the test and the data that has been gathered so far.
“With this information,” the website states, “the state can map areas of need and make investments that will eventually give everyone the opportunity to connect to the internet.”
The test takes a few minutes and shows download and upload speeds, latency and retransmission.
