Filmmakers Jared Hess and Jerusha Hess will reunite with cast members from their Franklin County-based hit movie “Napoleon Dynamite” in an event at East High School in Salt Lake City on Friday night.
The event is a fundraiser for the nonprofit Utah Film Center on the 15th anniversary of the film. Stars reuniting for a moderated Q&A session following photo ops and a screening of the film are: Jon Heder (Napoleon), Efren Ramirez (Pedro), Emily Dunn (Trisha), Shondrella Avery (Lafawnduh) and Aaron Ruell (Kip) and Jeremy Coon (producer/editor).
The evening begins at 5:30 p.m.
Jared Hess, the film’s director, is a 1997 graduate of Preston High School and wrote the screenplay with his wife, Jerusha. The movie was filmed at Preston High School and several other locations in Franklin County. Many local residents were extras in the film.
In Preston, Adventure Video has “Napoleon Dynamite” memorabilia for sale, and owner LuJean Young said the demand for them is consistent.
“People come in from all over for it,” Young said. “There was some yesterday from Nevada, last week from Pennsylvania; some people come from Logan, some here who have family in it. It’s just fun.”
A year ago, BYU Magazine featured the film in a cover story, “It’s Still Dynamite: How a bunch of undergrads made themselves a dang cult classic.”
