To the editor:
We want to thank the City of Logan for their extraordinary efforts in responding to this year’s early snowstorm. Too often, it is easy to complain about government’s ineptitude without acknowledging their importance in keeping society functioning.
We live on Logan’s Island and the storm left us without power and with broken trees and downed power lines. A storm of this magnitude often leaves people without power for days. It was remarkable that we had power back by sunset that day and the woody debris was immediately removed from roads and sidewalks and organized onto the park strips. It has taken a bit longer to get the parks and trails open, but the city has done a good job prioritizing the most essential tasks.
We saw crews working long hours in the days after the storm, and have noted their exceptional effort to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the neighborhood. The city also benefits from the civic mindedness of our citizens with neighbors helping neighbors. We are lucky to live in a community that cares about each other and comes together in times of crisis. The combination of good city management and individual accountability is yet another reason our family enjoys living in Logan.
