To the editor:

The earth has been here for about 4.5 billion years. In that time the Earth has gone through gigantic radiation blasts from the sun, asteroid strikes of millions of megatons (that wiped out the dinosaurs), millions of meteorite strikes, ice ages, molten fire processes, continental shift, plate tectonics, continental subduction, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions (that leveled landscapes for hundreds of miles in all directions), tsunamis, typhoons, hurricanes, floods, droughts, tornadoes, hundreds of nuclear blasts, thousands upon thousands of man-made disasters, eight million lightning strikes (five times hotter than the sun), 5,540 strikes every minute of every day, hundreds of thousands of forest fires, wildfires, flash floods, avalanches and landslides on a daily basis, pestilence and plagues too numerous to count.

The earth has survived all of this!

Do you really believe the earth’s final demise will come from a few hundred tons of plastic grocery bags?
