Nearly 20 years ago I wrote an op-ed piece which described the saga of Tony Martin, who shot and killed one burglar and wounded another. Unfortunately a man was jailed (Ronald Stolarczyk) and charged with a felony for using a handgun to shoot two burglars in New York state. His crime was using a handgun which he had inherited without registering it. He was living in his home without electricity or running water (because it had been condemned).
