Don Bath, 77, perished at the Franklin County Medical Center on Friday, July 12. He was admitted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries allegedly sustained July 9, when the Preston Police Department and Franklin County Sheriff’s office were dispatched to a report of battery at a West Oneida residence at 5:27 a.m.

Bath, who has dementia, was confused about the time he needed to be at a doctor’s appointment. He encountered Jareth K. Christensen near his home, flashing a light in Christensen’s eyes, said Bath’s family.

Christensen, 25, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery, a felony, and was booked into the Cache County Jail on a $5,000 bond. The bond was posted and Christensen released.

According to Preston Police Chief Dan McCammon, the case is still under investigation.

“It is too soon to be able to say what might happen at this point,” said Chief McCammon.
