When the brakes of a snowmobile went out at 5:17 p.m. on Jan. 9, the driver lost control of it. They were on private property near 575 Cub River Hideout, east of Preston. As the driver, Hayley Burrell, attempted to avoid a hill of snow, the snowmobile collided with a tree.

Her younger brother, who was riding with her, sustained major injuries to his leg, and was taken to Franklin County Medical Center, state the accident report. No citations were issued.
