Multiple Preston soccer players participated in Logan’s Cache Valley Cup soccer tournament Wednesday July 10- Saturday July 13. Many participated as individuals on a variety of teams but three Preston teams were put together as well — one by Venom, the Preston competitive girls’ team and two organized by the Preston High School boys’ soccer program.
Preston’s older boys’ team took second place in the HS Boys Bronze Division. They defeated their first opponent 3-1 and the second 7-0 before losing to Utah Surf Davis 02, 1-0. The championship game was a rematch between Preston and Utah Surf Davis 02. Preston’s loss put them in second place. Ramon Rodriguez was voted the team MVP by the Utah Surf team and coaches. Garrett Kelley and Ty Miller were also noted by Preston coaches for their strong play.
Venom played in the U14 Gold division where they placed third. The girls played four games over two days. They lost two and won two.
The younger Preston boys competed in the U16 Gold Division where they were fourth. “It was the first time for this group playing together,” said Coach Jason Reese. “There were a lot of good things. We saw great play out of incoming freshman John Anderson, Stratton Daley, Kaden Johnson and Dylan Wood. Emmett Waetchler, Treyton Hendrickson had a solid performance. Overall it was an opportunity for these kids to get on the field and get into some game scenarios before the fall season starts.”
