Bethany Dow, daughter of Scott and LeAnn Dow, signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Snow College on April 15. She accepted a full ride scholarship to the school where she will study elementary education.
Several colleges were interested in Dow but CSI and Snow were the ones she considered. After interacting with both programs and their coaches she felt comfortable with both but Snow under Mike Russell won out as a better fit.
“Bethany has had an interesting journey with her high school basketball career,” said her mother LeAnn Dow. “She has been a starter for three different schools’ varsity teams. Her sophomore year she played for the Magrath Pandas in Magrath Alberta. Her junior year was with the Madison Bobcats in Rexburg and this year for the Preston Indians. She has had many amazing coaches along the way; each one has contributed to her success.”
Dow was named a second team all-star both her sophomore and junior years and received first team honors her senior year. “She has had many teammates that have become amazing friends,”Mrs. Dow said. “She has followed in her father and brother’s footsteps as she has learned to love the game and value the life lessons learned. Her father was a big influence in teaching her to work hard and never give up. Bethany loves life, loves people and basketball has been a great way to build relationships with many people.”
Of her early experience her mother said,“Bethany started playing at age five with the Junior Jazz in Provo. At that young age she just wanted her hands on the ball. She would steal it from whoever had it and the refs had to keep stopping the game because she was only supposed to guard the girl with the matching wristband. One of her favorite parts of the game is blocking shots.”
