Last season Garrett Kelley was Preston’s only representative at the 4A state golf tournament where he finished just outside the top 10. This season he had the company of his teammates and they finished eighth overall with a 667 in team standings May 13-14 at the state championships at Twin Falls Golf Course.

Kelley tied with Alex Van Auker of Ridgevue for ninth place with a 4-over 148. Kelley went 3-under 69 in the opening round on May 13 and finished with a 7-over 79 May 14. Teammate Ethan Pearson shot a two-day 156 while Garrett Ward contributed a 168, Jackson Porter 196 and Dixon Alder 197

Minico’s Gage Skaggs won the boys crown with a 7-under 137 and led his team to a first-place finish. The Spartans tied with Ridgevue at 600 each but Minico came out ahead in a playoff. In addition, the team earned the 4A State Academic title for having the highest combined GPA.

Kelley averaged a 77.13 to earn first-team honors. Teammate Ethan Pearson averaged 89.43 to make honorable mention, as did Sydney Keller with a 107.09 for the girls.
