West Side hosted a tri-match with Teton and Preston last week before traveling to the Magic Valley Classic tournament on Jan. 13-14. They will attend the Tiger Braw Pod tournament in Aberdeen on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 20-21.
At the Magic Valley tournament Gavin Peterson went undefeated for first place at 106 lbs. Jed Hurren at 138 and Colten Gundersen at 160 were also undefeated. Gundersen won all five of his matches by fall.
Ben Jensen (220) took third, Shad Groll (170) was fourth, Stellar Tew (126) placed fifth and Colter Barzee (98), Mitchell Mumford (113) and Tige Roberts (138) took sixth.
Sesha Beckstead won four of five bouts by fall at the 6th Jaybird Memorial Girls tournament and lost one by fall. Samantha Roberts also won four of her five matches.
At home West Side lost to both Teton (36-42) and Preston 30-49 on Jan. 11.
West Side, ranked fourth in the most recent 1A/2A Coaches Poll, racked up 18 points via forfeit, but it wasn’t quite enough against Teton. Teton went 8-3 in the contested duels to hold off the hosts.
Jed Hurren (138), Kale Breckencamp (182) and Jace Royer (195) all prevailed by fall for the Pirates, who dominated in the extra matches as they went 6-1.
