PROVO, Utah — Yoeli Childs had 29 points and 13 rebounds as BYU beat San Diego 87-73 on Saturday night. TJ Haws added 26 points for the Cougars.

"It was a hard-fought game," BYU head coach Dave Rose said. "I’m glad for our guys to get a big win and some momentum going into the tournament next week."

Nick Emery had 15 points for BYU (19-12, 11-5 West Coast Conference). Zac Seljaas added 10 points.

Isaiah Wright had 19 points and seven rebounds for the Toreros (18-13, 7-9). Olin Carter III added 15 points. Tyler Williams had 11 points.

The Cougars improve to 2-0 against the Toreros for the season. BYU defeated San Diego 88-82 on Feb. 14. The Cougars and the Toreros next take the floor in the West Coast Conference Tournament.

"This team’s been through so much adversity and so many challenges that we know who we are," Childs said. "We know we’re a team who can bounce back and is really good when we’re doing the right things. Everyone’s confidence is sky high right now and we are going in with the attitude that we’re going to win it all. I wish it would come quicker."

Pridgett scores 20 to lift Montana over S. Utah

MISSOULA, Mont. — Sayeed Pridgett had 20 points as Montana defeated Southern Utah 70-54 on Saturday night.

Ahmaad Rorie had 15 points and six assists for Montana (21-7, 14-3 Big Sky Conference). Michael Oguine added 14 points and nine rebounds. Bobby Moorehead had nine rebounds for the home team.

Cameron Oluyitan had 10 points for the Thunderbirds (14-13, 9-9).

"It was the tale of a couple halves," SUU head coach Todd Simon said following the contest. "I thought we did a pretty good job for most of the first half. Obviously foul trouble really hurt us, especially in the second where Andre (Adams) gets his third early on and that changes our defensive scheme. To their credit they took advantage, and they had a good day on their senior night."

The Grizzlies improve to 2-0 against the Thunderbirds on the season. Montana defeated Southern Utah 89-76 on Dec. 31. Montana plays Northern Arizona at home on Monday. Southern Utah matches up against Montana State on the road on Monday. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on PLUTO TV - CH. 236.

"We've just got to bring a consistent 40 minute effort," Simon said. "We've got to keep our key guys out foul trouble and we've got to battle. We can't give them anything easy. And we've got to make shots, shooting on the road has been an issue for us all year long and we've got to do a better job with that."

Steele lifts Utah Valley past California Baptist

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Baylee Steele recorded 14 points and 10 rebounds to lift Utah Valley to a 64-63 win over California Baptist on Saturday night.

"This is a huge win for us and it's really hard to win on the road, especially on these guys' senior night," said Utah Valley head coach Mark Pope. "I'm so proud of our guys and they played their tails off against a really good team."

Richard Harward made a pair of free throws to give the Wolverines the lead with 1:35 left and the Lancers missed three 3-point attempts from there.

Conner Toolson had 13 points and eight rebounds for Utah Valley (21-8, 10-4 Western Athletic Conference), which earned its fifth consecutive win. Isaiah White added 10 points.

Jake Toolson had only 7 points despite leading the Wolverines in scoring heading into the matchup with 17 points per game. He shot 20 percent from beyond the arc (1 of 5).

After heading to halftime with a 39-31 advantage, Utah Valley managed to hang on for the victory despite being outscored by 7 points in the second half. The Wolverines' 25 second-half points marked a season low for the team.

Milan Acquaah had 21 points for the Lancers (15-13, 6-8). Jordan Heading added 19 points. Zach Pirog had 6 points and five blocks.

The Wolverines improve to 2-0 against the Lancers for the season. Utah Valley defeated California Baptist 79-62 on Jan. 30. Utah Valley faces Grand Canyon at home on Thursday at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live on the WAC Digital Network. California Baptist matches up against Texas Rio Grande Valley on the road on Thursday.
