A difficult season for the Bear River High football team reached its end last Friday in St. George.

Coming into the first round of the 4A playoffs at 0-9, the Bears received the lowest seed in the tournament and drew a road trip to Dixie, which took an early lead and held on for a 48-20 win at home.

Down 14-0 after the first quarter, Bear River responded in the second period with a 4-yard touchdown pass from Owen Olsen to Garrison Marble. The Flyers then continued to build on their lead, taking a 34-7 advantage into halftime.

The Bears came out after halftime and held even as each team scored twice in the fourth quarter. Alec Callister hit paydirt on a two-yard run, then Olsen found Cutler John on a 19-yard scoring strike to provide the final margin.

Bear River finished the season with an overall record of 0-10 and a lot of valuable experience to build on for next season.

Four Region 11 teams made it to this Friday’s quarterfinals. Sky View will travel to Dixie, while Ridgeline and Logan will face off in Millville and Green Canyon hosts Crimson Cliffs.
