After three losses to start the season, the Bear River girls soccer team found its footing late last week with a decisive win in front of the home crowd.
Naomi Tomlinson was a force to be reckoned with as the Bears hosted Ben Lomond on Thursday in Garland. Tomlinson scored four goals, including a hat trick in the second half alone, as Bear River improved to 1-3 on the young season in a 4-0 drubbing of the Scots. Lyza Pebley recorded the clean sheet in goal for the Bears.
Bear River started the season with a 3-0 loss at Maple Mountain on Aug. 3, then fell 2-1 to Morgan two days later in the Bears’ home opener, a game in which Gracie Meeds scored Bear River’s first goal of the season.
The Bears fell to 0-3 on Aug. 10 at Box Elder, with the Bees taking a 5-1 victory to retain cross-valley bragging rights for another year. Tomlinson scored Bear River’s only goal in that match.
This week’s schedule brought two more nonconference games for the Bears, who were set to host St. Joseph on Tuesday before traveling to Juan Diego on Friday.
Bear River is slated to kick off Region 11 play at home on Wednesday, Sept. 1 against reigning Region 11 and 4A state champion Ridgeline.
